So you got engaged? YAY! Congratulations honey! The first thing I did when I got engaged was book a few appointments for wedding dress shopping. Are you surprised? A fashion blogger being excited about her wedding dress??
As I went shopping, I learned a few things along the way that might be helpful to you when you are looking for your dress.
Know What Styles You Like
Do a little Pinterest search for wedding dresses and see if there is something out there you like. I came in with an idea of my venue, and 2-3 key words that I was looking for.
For me, mine was "timeless, romantic, and sexy!" It may be silly, but this really helps the stylist envision what you want.
Research Salons
READ REVIEWS, ASK FRIENDS. This is huge and probably doesn't need to be said, but do your actual research and see what other people's experiences are with the boutiques!
Another thing to add - I found a designer I liked, then looked up salons in Atlanta that carried them. A lot of boutiques will have a general catalogue of what they carry, so you can get a feel for their styles and designers before going in. This helps with remaining calm and not getting too overwhelmed.

Don't Do Too Much in One Day
We did two salons one day and one the next. The first salon helped me nail down what I was looking for the the other two are where I really felt like I had good options. I would pick your least excited place to go to first. This is like the trial and error visit!
Keep Your Group Small
It was just my mama and me as I have a great relationship with her and trust her opinion. If you have a different situation, ask someone you trust to have your best interest in mind (but will also support your final decision).
I'd say no more than 3 people should come to your appointment. This will keep opinions minimal, and honestly, you want to focus and attention to be on you! Make sure they take A LOT of pictures when you come out. This helps you keep dresses you like/dislike in order.

Stop Shopping Once You Say Yes!
Not sure if this needs explanation, but this was a concern of mine. What if I find something better? Well, maybe I will but I loved this dress when I put it on and I sent it to my best friend for reassurance that I made the right decision.
Other tips Of Course:
- Be clear about your budget.
- Wear easy to dress out of clothes/shoes.
- Wear seamless underwear and a strapless bra (I usually took my bra off).
- Don't let anyone pressure you into a decision.
- Bring heels around the same height you plan on wearing. I am almost considered tall, so when they asked how high my heels were, they said I might need to order extra length!
- If you go alone or keep your shopping group small, bring a friend (or friends) to your dress fitting so they can see the final pick!
